How to cite

Used it in research? Cite it.

A citation says who made the program and which version produced your numbers, so someone else can repeat the analysis. Pick a format and copy it. Every format comes from the same citation file as the app, so the authors, the version and the DOI always match.

Zenodo DOI: doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23707217. This address always leads to the newest version; version 4.7.0, the current one, has no deposit of its own yet, so the citations below use this DOI.

The citation keeps the program's Portuguese title and labels, exactly as the app and the Zenodo record give it.

Who can use it for research

SeedCounter by Hilum is free for research and teaching. Research groups, research lab technicians, teachers and students can use the app, the example images and the results, including to validate the method on another set of seeds, as long as they cite it. The program runs in the browser, but the code is not open.

The research plan comes with an institutional email: sign in to the app with your university's or research institute's Google account and the account moves to that plan on its own. If your email is not recognized, write to contato@hilum.science and we will enable it by hand.

The DOI

SeedCounter by Hilum versions are deposited on Zenodo, CERN's research repository, and each deposit gets its own DOI; the all-versions DOI always points to the latest one. The record holds the manual in Portuguese and English, the shortcut sheet, the release notes, the license and the citation file. The code is not included: the record documents the version.

To always cite the newest version, use the all-versions DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23707217.
To state exactly which version produced your numbers, use the version DOI, when that version has its own deposit. Versions deposited so far:

The authors

The order and spelling of the names follow the Zenodo record, as each author registered them on ORCID.

Enrico Sonvenso Ambrosio writes and maintains the program (Lattes, ORCID). Prof. Ceci Castilho Custódio (Lattes, ORCID) and Prof. Nelson Barbosa Machado-Neto (Lattes, ORCID) advise on the seed science. Mayara de Oliveira Vidotto Figueiredo (Lattes, ORCID) tests the program in the lab.

Along with the citation

State the version you used. It appears in the app footer, in the report and in the spreadsheet (column versao_app).
In your methods, say how the scale was calibrated and whether the proposals were checked one by one. The manual has a guide to what to write.
